Younes Abghoui

Dr. Younes Abghoui is a Research Associate Professor at the Science Institute, University of Iceland. His research group works at the intersection of computational modeling and experimental validation to accelerate the discovery of sustainable energy solutions. Current projects include green hydrogen production through advanced electrocatalysts, CO₂ capture and conversion under ambient conditions, and the development of next-generation batteries beyond lithium-ion technology. His work is dedicated to enabling the transition toward a carbon-neutral energy future through innovative materials design and integrated approaches that bridge fundamental science with real-world applications. He has international collaborations with Imperial College London - UK, Technical University of Denmark, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières - Canada, University of Oslo (UiO) - Norway, and the University of Jyväskylä - Finland to name some examples.
