Travel to Iceland
There are multiple flights every day to and from Iceland from destinations in Europe, USA and Canada. To find your convenient flights we encourage you to visit the websites of either of the two major Icelandic airlines, www.icelandair.com or www.flyplay.com or to use www.skyscanner.net
Flights to Iceland land at Keflavik international airport - KEF, located about 50 km a way from downtown Reykjavik and the IGEC conference venue. Travel time is about 45 min to an hour. For more information on the airport visit https://www.kefairport.com/
An affordable and convenient bus option is offered from Keflavík airport to Reykjavík hotels. A ticket can be bought upon arrival at the arrival terminal or online via https://www.re.is/tour/flybus/ Busses depart from directly outside the arrival terminal.
Taxis are also available. The taxis are located directly outside the terminal on the arrival side of the terminal. To secure a favorable price we encourage prebooking your taxi or at least asking the price before setting off. An example of a respectable taxi company is https://www.hreyfill.is/
All cars and busses accept credit cards.
Car rental
Multiple car rental companies operate in Iceland, offering a wide range of vehicles, including electric. Driving in Iceland is quite safe and at the time of the conference driving conditions should normally be good. Vehicles can be picked up and dropped off at the Keflavik airport or in the Reykjavik area. Electrical vehicles are becoming widely used in Iceland and access to charging facilities throughout the country.
